About Drew Forrest
Drew Forrest’s direct experience of genuine fast bowling is very limited: as a short-lived member of Eddie Barlow’s Wanderers side of the late 1960s he once faced Vaal speedster Des Sparks, and lived to tell the tell the tale. And as a painfully defensive opening batsman, he had a mercifully brief exposure to Mike Procter in a school match. But he has loved cricket has been fascinated by fast bowlers for almost as long as he can remember. His entrée to the world’s greatest game was through his father, Ted, a Transvaal and English minor counties batsman. Forrest is a journalist of long experience who covered the 1993/4 Australian tour to South Africa for the Mail & Guardian and has written on cricket for newspapers on many occasions since. He currently works for the M&G Centre for Investigative Journalism. He is married to Shahn Irwin, lives in Johannesburg and has two children, Justin and Dominic, by a previous marriage.
